For many years, the streets of Barcelona have become a main stage for hundreds of musicians. This has meant the chance to earn a living for many artists. For others, a cradle of learning in their first steps inside the world of street art.
Founded in 2006, “Made in Barcelona” have been broadcasting their music to every corner of the city. They have become the oldest group on the circuit of street bands of Barcelona. But not everything has been easy in the recent years. Despite the daily passion, dedication and effort, almost every artist must look for other alternatives in order to have decent incomes.
Between 2011 and 2015, more than 2,000 instruments were seized due to unaccredited musicians. Despite the fact that some musicians already play in the Gracia and Sants area, legally there are only 21 points where they can do it and they are all in the Ciutat Vella district. In 2015 was the last call for new licenses, but only 27 out of 158 were given. Currently, there is a good intention on the part of the government to regulate this situation, although there is still no approval of a new law that covers more street artists.
This project is in gratitude to music and to all the artists who make it an art form.
"Art is on the street, and if there is no art, there is no street."
